SCHS Choral Department
The Choral Department at Shelby County High School in Shelbyville, Kentucky has a rich past with Distinguished Regional and State Assessment ratings, performances of varied and extensive choral literature, a cappella choirs, show choirs, musicals, tours across the nation, and remarkable directors.
Since the county split into two public high schools in 2010, effectively dividing the choir, the program has seen some change to build it back. In the last five years, the program has divided its one choir into three choirs that rehearse during school hours: 8th Grade Choir, Concert Choir, Women's Choir and Shelby Singers. There are also two auditioned ensembles that rehearse before school: Chamber and Treble Choirs. We have raised money for new equipment, redesigned the rehearsal space, re-filed the entire choral library, made two trips to Disney, and added choral tuxes and dresses to our concert attire. From 2011 to the end of school year 2016, the program grew in numbers. I'm not finished with the vision for SCHS Choirs, but I believe we are off to a good start. |
